One of the many activities found in and around the Mar Menor Resort is Horse Riding. Located within the area at a short 20 minute drive, you will come up to the town of Los Belones which is host to the Rancho de la Fuenta, the horse riding stables. With around 60 horses available for both adults and children, theres enough to accommodate any size of group you are in. Not only can you ride horses but donkeys, Shetland poneys and Arabian horses are all available to ride. For smaller children, the Shetland poneys are an ideal choice being small in size. | | |
At Rancho de la Fuenta, riding lessons are available for both children and the novice riders. Each lesson includes walking, trotting and even cantering depending on how the rider feels, if he or she is ready and confident. This is a perfect way to introduce you to the world of horse riding whilst exploring the Murcia area at the same time. You will learn in a sand based menage whilst the more experienced and confident riders will be able to partake in mountain and beach hacks. These hacks contain more intense riding and are accompanied by at least 2 lead riders that are trained in the case of emergency. Lasting between 15 to 30 minutes, lead reign lessons and mini hacks are also available for children. The recommended and most popular mountain hack lasts between 1 – 2 hours consisting of various terrain. Most of the trail is walking and trotting around the mountains but some cantering can come into play that generally excites the horses. The trained leaders will guide you up and around the stunning Murcian Mountains that will soon provide you with some breathtaking views of the beautiful area. You will then make your way back to the horse yard. This mountain hack is entirely off road away from traffic to let you enjoy the true beauty of the region. The beach hack is the longer hack lasting between 3 – 4 hours in duration. This is recommended for the more experienced of riders due to galloping being a feature. Like the mountain hack, most of it is made up of walking and trotting until you reach the beautiful beaches. Once you reach the beach, you will have the opportunity to gallop up and down the sandy beaches 4 or 5 times to enjoy the exhilaration of horse riding. This is the ultimate feeling and at the end of the trail the horses love to swim in the sea. As generally more people go on this hack at one time, three leaders are present to keep everyone safe. Most of the beach hack is off road apart from when you leave and arrive back at the horse riding stables. Horse riding along the beach is very popular; the beautiful Andalusian horses carry you through some of the most striking areas through the Calblanque National Park. Once you reach the wide beach areas, galloping along the beach is an experience always remembered. We have found the best way to choose and book the horse riding lessons or hacks around the Mar Menor is to visit the horse riding stables and have a chat with the friendly staff. Simply decide a good time you wish to undertake horse riding and they will organise the rest on your behalf. Depending on demand, the hacks generally consist between 4 - 8 people, and horse riding lessons between 2 – 4 people. If required individual one to one lessons can be arranged. | | You can check availability and prices of all accommodation on this website by referring to the top left hand section of this page.
