First and foremost water skiing consists of being pulled across a lake or sea by either motor boat or a cable system. Safety is the key when it comes to water sports as using this method of holding onto the rope means if anything goes wrong you simply let go of the rope. This method is used when being pulled along from loss of balance mostly. Do not worry as onboard the boat is a spotter. Their job is simply to let the driver know if you let go of the rope to stop and come back to you. If you are a novice at water skiing or have previous experience, you will be taught how to communicate with the experienced spotter via certain hand signals whilst on the water. This is to make communication in vital situation simple and clear to whether you are in trouble. If you wish to water ski across the Mar Menor lagoon, after being taught how to communicate you can learn the skills required to successfully water ski. All tuition is at a slow pace making it easy for everyone to soon learn and pick up. There will be 3 of you to a boat minimum as water skiing requires a driver, spotter and of course you, the water skier. The spotters job is to watch over you at all times whilst out water skiing along the Mar Menor to let the driver know if you need assistance. Letting go of the rope is a good example of when this comes into practice as the driver will then know to stop and turn back to get you set up again to water ski. Novices should feel a sense of achievement when being able to stay upright on the water without falling over. It is worth noting not to try and show off as it may end up wasting your time on the lagoon. The more experienced water skiers are more than welcome to jump over the waves and perform stunts as they wish. Remember if you need to stop at any time, all you need to do is perform the hand signals and let go of the rope. The spotter will inform the driver as per usual and turn straight away to you. Water skiing is available throughout the coastline of the Mar Menor. Tuition is on hand by qualified instructors ensuring the correct technique is learnt. Once taught you will be able to have a few runs out on the water to master those skills. Lessons are not compulsory as with previous experience you will be able to go straight ahead and arrange water ski runs out on the Mar Menor. Water skis are specially designed for use on water, if you have your own skis the overall hourly cost will be reduced due to less equipment hired.
